Manhasset music stands – quality workmanship since 1935
Manhasset Specialty Company has been a leading manufacturer of concert-style music stands since 1935. As their official and exclusive UK distributors, we are very familiar with this storied and successful company.
Manhasset was founded by inventor and musician Otto Lagervall. Dissatisfied with the quality of existing music stands at the time, Lagervall decided to apply his talents to developing a better music stand, one that prioritised longevity and quality through high standard materials and workmanship. In fact, since its establishment, Manhasset has built a reputation for producing the longest-lasting and most durable music stands in the industry.
Originally, the company was based in (surprise!) Manhasset, New York, from where it derives its name. In the early 1940s, they moved to Yakima, Washington and have remained there ever since, with all Manhasset stands still made in the United States. We import container shipments of music stands direct from the factory in Yakima to this day.
Over the years, Manhasset has continued to research, develop, and innovate new products to meet the needs of musicians of all ages, and their commitment to consistent quality has made them the number one choice of many schools, bands and orchestras worldwide.
‘Manhasset has never let go of the essential requirement that quality is the highest priority.’

The products themselves
The product range has expanded to include a variety of music stands as well as accessories to go with them:
The Classic Symphony stand
The Symphony music stand is the flagship item. A large but lightweight solid aluminium desk holds 4kg of music, and knob-free height and angle adjustment makes for reliable ease of use. Immensely popular with orchestras and bands for permanent use in concert venues and school halls, this stand is also used by individuals wanting a sturdy stand for home use. For seated or younger players, they also offer a concertino version. This stand is the bedrock for Manhasset’s success, and for good reason.
The Orchestral Symphony Stand
Retains all the features of the dependable classic Manhasset design with an extra shelf on the desk perfect for storing pencils, rosin, bows, valve oil, reeds, and other spare parts and accessories. As with the Symphony, there is also a shorter concertino version available.
The Tall Symphony Stand
An extra tall version of the classic Manhasset Symphony stand and ideal for use by standing musicians such as double bassists and groups that perform on risers or elevated platforms. The specifications are identical to the standard Symphony stand except that the minimum and maximum extension of the shaft are 30cm (12in) higher.
The Manhasset Voyager Music Stand
This stand has been designed for performing musicians, who demand portability without sacrificing the quality that Manhasset stands are known for. Perfect for touring musicians or groups, the Voyager has the same solid, adjustable desk, yet is completely portable, folding down small for easier carrying.
The Harmony Music Stand
With cleverly designed V-shaped feet, these Harmony stands are easily stackable (24 will fit in just 6 feet of space) without sacrificing any of the famous Manhasset stability. They’re particularly space-efficient and hence ideal for anyone with limited storage space! Apart from the base, the Harmony specifications are identical to the Classic Symphony model.
The Tabletop Music Stand
Identical to the desk of Manhasset's famous Symphony range, this high-quality lightweight aluminium music stand has a rubber foot on the back which simultaneously supports the stand and protects the surface on which it is placed. Ideal for schools to utilise in Whole Class Ensemble Teaching (WCET) without having to reshuffle the classroom!
The Director’s Stand
The must-have music stand for conductors is based on the dependable classic Manhasset design. It features an extra layer behind the desk perfect for storing spare music, books, stationery, and other accessories, meaning the stand never feels cluttered and letting you focus purely on the music.
The Fourscore Music Stand
Ideal for groups, studios, conductors, and any musician that can't or doesn't want to turn pages, the Fourscore from Manhasset has a desk as wide as 4 sides of A4 paper, so easily fits landscape, oversized, and multipage scores. Apart from the added shelf length, the stand is identical to the classic Symphony model.
The Regal Conductor Music Stand
Representing the top of the Manhasset range of music stands combining all the features of the various special models in one. These include the Director style double layer storage, the Orchestral stands dual-lip shelf, and the Fourscore sized extra wide desk. To make it extra secure and support all the extra weight, it also features 2 support posts rather than the usual 1.
Microphone Stands
Manhasset have also ventured into microphone stands, using the same adjustment mechanism as on their other products. These are intended to pair perfectly with the music stands in that they are ideal for orchestral use. The concertino version in particular allows you to save on space, extending only as high as necessary to mic sitting wind and brass players where needed. And they're great for gigging musicians too!
Acoustic shields
Manhasset's Acoustic Shield is designed to protect the hearing of players stationed near loud instruments but has many other useful applications:
- Acting as a safety barrier where groups need to rehearse with limited space
- Reflecting live feedback for mic'd players and singers without a monitor speaker
- French horn players can place behind the instrument bell to act as a deflector
- Useable in the studio to reduce unwanted noise or microphone bleed
- Surrounding a drum kit with multiple shields to protect other musicians' hearing
The standard clear acoustic screen has a diameter of 51 x 43cm, with the music stand option (featuring a 1.5” bottom lip) coming in at 55cm x 66cm.
Trolleys for schools and orchestras
All Manhasset’s stands have been thought out to facilitate easy racking, and all their racks and trollies have a heavy duty welded steel construction. This is essential given the abundance of Manhasset stands in schools and concert halls, where rapid bulk movement is a common necessity.
The MAN1920 and MAN1910 storage carts fit up to 13 or 25 Symphony stands (or anything with the similar base) and the MAN1980 fits up to 15 Harmony stands.
Testimonials
"We have used Manhasset stands for our entire 30 year history. We have found them to be an excellent and reliable product."
- Tom Crawford, Music Director – American Classical Orchestra, New York
"I have used Manhasset stands since I was a child. I personally prefer Manhasset over (competing brand) due to weight and bulk. In other words, I can pick up three Manhasset's in each hand and walk. I can only pick up two (competing brand) stands due to their size which means if you are dealing with an orchestra, moving 6 stands is quicker and more efficient than 4 if you are moving say 12-15 stands."
- Douglas Whitaker, Director of Operations – Memphis Symphony Orchestra
"The Voyager stands are great! They are compact, easy to transport and well built. We travel a lot and the Voyager allows for a very fast and efficient set up at our concerts. I would highly recommend them."
- Koen Maes, Manager – Brussels Jazz Orchestra, Brussels, Belgium
