Introducing our range of Castanets

Featuring castanets, from Halilit, Meinl and Percussion Plus we have a  range of castanets and slap sticks that are all great options for early years and schools that want high-quality instruments to add to their percussion sets.

We have a wide variety of castanets to choose from including plastic, easy to play castanets ideal for early years to traditional finger castanets  that have been crafted from Indian rosewood.

Percussion Plus

Great for schools we have the PP589 transparent sparkle castanets that come with great quantity discounts. The bright colours are great fun and would make a great addition to any classroom percussion set. They are made from plastic and are easy to use, making them perfect for young children.

The PP257 wood castanets with a handle in our signature Percussion Plus red colour create a bright and powerful sound when the attachments are clicked against the main body of the instrument. Easy to play these are also ideal for educational use and the durable quality means that they will last within the challenging school or nursery environment.

Honestly made Wooden clapper

All handcrafted using high quality materials, this particular wooden clapper consists of a long handle and two smaller pieces of wood attached by an elasticated cord.

It has been crafted in India using traditional materials and methods and produces a mottled clave sound when shaken. The mango wood adds resonance which creates a powerful, sharp and direct sound when it is shaken vigorously.

About the castanets

The origins of the castanets are unknown, however the idea of clicking two sticks together in one hand can be traced back to ancient Greek and Egyptian times. Used throughout the world in various styles however, most notably in Spanish flamenco music.

Typically made of wood, the castanets consist of two concave shells joined together at one end by the use of a string or a chord. They are played in one hand by clicking the two halves together for rhythmic accent or a rattling sound.
