Popular Student models include:
STN1102 Stentor Student 1, STN1108 Stentor Student II, BEC300 MMX Student and STN1186 Stentor Conservatoire. Most models are supplied with a padded bag however the Stentor Conservatoire comes with a smart black semi rigid case. Cello outfits include bow, case and rosin and are supplied with strings fitted and ready to play.
Stentor Cellos
Stentor produce some of the best quality student string instruments and are very popular with schools, students and teachers alike and tens of thousands of cellists start their playing life on a Stentor Student cello.
Stentor are factory made instruments that are made in China and deliver remarkable value for money and a good starter instrument for most beginner cellists.
MMX cellos
MMX are a step-up instrument and are produced in a workshop environment under the careful eyes of master luthier Guofang Wang at his family workshops in rural China.
BEC300 MMX Student cellos are the perfect starter instrument for the most discerning early cellist. Features include a spruce top with a two-piece maple back and sides and the body is finished with an oil varnish to provide protection and an attractive sheen whilst allowing the natural qualities of the wood to show through. Fabulous cellos and normally supplied with our highly regarded MMX61 composite student cello bows with genuine horse hair.
BEC500 MMX Performer cellos are the ideal cello for a student who has outgrown their first instrument and is ready for the next step. These cellos are made from quality tone woods and carved by hand in the MMX workshops This model offers a fine-grained solid spruce top, quartersawn maple back & ribs, ebony fittings, and an alloy tailpiece with 4 integral fine tuners. Hand varnished in an antique oil varnish to complete a cello that looks superb and offers a full sound with a wide tonal variety.

All MMX cellos are setup in our workshop to ensure that the instrument meets our standards., this includes setting bridge, SP, top/ bottom nut, fingerboard, and pegs. They are also stringed with great quality strings.
The MMX range includes Student, Soloist, Signature and Virtuoso cellos ranging from 1/4 to 4/4 sizes, making them suitable for students looking for their first cello, progressing students and accomplished performers.
About the cello
The violoncello, commonly known as the cello (plural cellos or celli), is a bowed string instrument belonging to the orchestral strings family of musical instruments. The cello is a fine solo musical instrument and is commonly seen in chamber music ensembles, string orchestras, and as a member of the string section of symphony orchestras. It is the second-largest bowed string instrument in the modern orchestra, the double bass being the largest. Its four strings run C – G – D – A low to high.
