There’s something timeless about the charm of an aged violin. The Hidersine Veracini takes this vintage appeal to heart, using expertly honed techniques developed over many years of dedication. Each instrument receives a unique, hand-applied antiquing process, creating a well-loved look, emboldened with subtle pitting and wear marks across the body.
The finishing touch is a spirit-based varnish, perfectly complementing the antique detailing. Spirit varnishes, commonly used in stringed instruments, add a slightly glossy finish that enhances the overall character of the violin.
Hidersine Veracini instruments use seasoned maple for their bridges, enhancing the tone of each violin, viola, or cello. Seasoned tonewoods have been stored in controlled environments, typically between 5 to 20+ years. This process reduces moisture content, allowing the wood fibres to settle and become more stable. As the wood is shaped into a bridge, it enhances vibration transmission, improving resonance and overall tone quality. This results in a more authentic sound, enriching the instrument's performance.
Hidersine Veracini models are the result of genuine hand-carving techniques. Each intricate curve of the neck, scroll, and body has been skilfully crafted. While many instruments rely heavily on machines, this can diminish their unique character. Each mark left by the luthier’s tools in a Veracini instrument is purposeful, enhancing both its structure and tone. Veracini violins are equipped with genuine ebony fingerboards, pegs, and chin rests, offering unparalleled durability, longevity, and comfort. Unlike dark-stained or "ebonised" softwoods often found on lower-quality instruments, genuine ebony resists marking, pitting, and wear, even after prolonged use. This is especially crucial in high-stress areas like the pegs, which endure significant tension from the strings. The integrity of the peg shafts is vital, and ebony is one of the best materials to maintain their strength and smooth operation. With its superior structural stability, Ebony not only ensures lasting performance but also provides a sleek, comfortable feel for the player, helping make the playing experience more pleasant all around.
Hidersine instruments feature a hand-carved solid spruce top. This is important because your instrument’s primary voice is formed by this sound-table, and therefore the top can resonate as a single, coherent structure and sound great as a result. Plus, as the wood ages and the solid tonewood top gradually relaxes at a cellular level into its natural rest state, it will resonate even more naturally, and the sound will improve further.
These violins not only have solid tops, but they also have beautiful solid, flamed maple ribs and backs too. These highly figured, solid tonewood sections further enhance the instrument’s natural tone by adding character. Maple with a natural ‘flame’ is extremely popular and looks stunning.
The bow supplied with the Veracini violin has been upgraded to a fully-mounted, high-quality bulletwood model. There is a smooth metal plate between the frog and the bow stick, allowing a smooth fit and protection for the wood. The intricate design of the bow ensures that it will not only assist in producing a superb tone, but will also perform for a long time.
