Introducing the Stentor Student I viola outfit

The Stentor Student I is a beautifully made beginner instrument and is a very popular student viola. Unlike many other student violas on the market, this instrument is hand-carved using only solid tonewoods and natural glues to produce the best possible quality of sound for students on a budget. This is an instrument that offers reliable, consistent performance and expressive tone, enhancing the learning process for students. On the Student I, the top is laminated and paired with an ebonised hardwood fingerboard and high-quality pau rosa pegs with an adjustable nylon tailgut and Teka pattern wood chin rest. Finally, the body has been coated in a mid-brown varnish for a sleek finish.

Also included is inlaid purfling to the top and bottom of the instrument. Purfling (strips of wood inlaid to the top and bottom plates of the viola) is not only decorative, but also means that a crack in the edge of a plate will not spread, or a crack in the front can be glued without removing the plate entirely.

This viola is supplied as an outfit which comprises a lightweight case with fitted interior, external shoulder rest pocket and music pocket, bow holders, and rosin, as well as backpack carrying straps.

We recommend that this viola would see a beginner through to the middle grades.

Viola and shoulder rest fine. Only problem was that the rosin had bits broken which were scattered around the viola. I have bought a new, more stable rosin. In context, not a big concern but perhaps better protection for these types of supplied rosins would be helpful. Thank you.
