Introducing the Trevor James Alphasax reduced key alto saxophone outfit
The Alphasax student saxophone is an innovation from the Trevor James team and has been specifically designed for smaller players who are unable to handle the weight and reach of the standard alto saxophone. This unique and great value-for-money instrument is recommended by teachers and has proven to be the ideal stepping stone between a recorder and an alto sax.
Perfect for young beginners
Tailor-made for smaller hands, the Alphasax plays a pivotal role in unleashing the uncharted musical horizons of budding talents. Now students no longer need to wait until they’re older before they start learning. This instrument is crafted around the original tube of the standard Eb, with a full two octave chromatic facility. The new mechanism has allowed Trevor James to maintain the finger positioning of a normal saxophone, enabling players to learn the instrument using current study books, so they can easily advance to another size once they are ready. Plus, it features a short reach mechanism, redesigned keys for extra comfort and a 33% weight reduction, leaving it at an impressive 1.86kg!
Carefully designed limited keywork
The omitted keys (LH palm keys for Top D#, E and F / low B & Bb keys / RH side F# keys & side C key) sit at the boundaries of the instruments range and are not generally essential until later learning stages – The Alphasax sounds and feels just like a standard saxophone. For further increased playability the top D key has been adjusted to fit small hands and the G#, low C#, D# and C keys have been made easier to reach.
The Alphasax still retains a full chromatic range from low C to high D and the featured high quality pads and metal reflectors offer a reliable seal that provides excellent intonation, adding to the instruments quality tone.
Customer testimonials
"I loved it as soon as I saw it...my son is only 9 years old but he has taken to the instrument really quickly. The Alphasax is much better to begin your sax life with as it is like playing an normal alto saxophone. It's better than having to start on the clarinet or curved soprano sax!"
David Hosker - Saxophone teacher, Sweden
"Initially I was skeptical when I opened the case and saw the Alphasax. However on playing the instrument and then understanding why it has been done, I believe it to be a truly fantastic opportunity for music education. It opens new doors for the younger or smaller players who want to play a saxophone…not a flute or clarinet!"
Michael Watkin – Saxophone teacher, Manchester, UK
"What a fantastic idea! The alphasax is still an alto sax but has been designed for just the students I am turning away because they are too small!"
John Doorman - Saxophone teacher, Leeds, UK
