Introducing the Yamaha U3 Upright Piano

The industry standard upright piano for practice and performance and perhaps the most well known and recognised of all upright pianos. Yamaha's U3 is used all over the world in schools, colleges, studios, performance venues, dance studios, private homes, the list goes on!

Offering outstanding musical performance, the U3 is 10cm taller than the U1 and benefits from enhanced features such as a floating soundboard for improved resonance and a sostenuto pedal.

At 131cm tall it has an expansive sound chamber enabing superb power and projection, while similar length keys to a grand piano provide a wonderfully delicate and responsive touch.

Also available with Silent Technology - allowing you to play silently, using headphones, any time of day or night.

Design heritage and expertise

The Yamaha U Series has been 65 years in the making and these new, improved models are better than ever before. Improvements include a redesigned scaling and frame for improved power and consistency, along with structural enhancements to improve stability and longevity. A long music desk is ideal for those longer scores or individual sheets.

Superior component quality and refinement

The Yamaha U Series is crafted at Yamaha's main factory in Hamamatsu, Japan by the same craftsmen who produce the class leading CX Series grand pianos. Wooden components come from Yamaha's wood processing plant in Asahikawa, Hokkaido, including the solid Alaskan spruce soundboard. These parts are specially selected for maturity and harmonic quality.

Specially selected hammers

Refined lambs wool hammers are specially selected for Yamaha U Series uprights, which have a layer of under-felt to enhance the warmth of tone and also ensure the hammers stand up to a lifetime of playing.

Soft-closing fallboard

The Yamaha U Series is the first series in the Yamaha lineup to feature a soft-closing lid or fallboard. A luxurious feature previously only found on grand pianos and means no more trapped fingers!

Low maintenance costs

Each instrument leaves Yamaha workshops in optimum condition, with the highest level of quality control and ready for a lifetime of service. Each Yamaha U Series upright is prepared by our in house technical team to ensure it delivers optimum performance.

How to care for your Yamaha Piano

Competitive overall deal and really enjoyable experience from viewing and hearing the piano to receiving the piano at home.

Brought Yamaha U3 recently, Dominic was most helpful. When you speak to someone on the phone or in person, and they provide helpful, no pressure insight information to assist making the right piano decision, this completes the sales process. Dominic ticks these boxes. Buying a Piano is a big investment for most people, getting it wrong due to not getting the right tone piano for the room for example, could impact the sound to say the least, so having comfort, no pressure advice is most welcome. The delivery company is very professional, quick and go the extra mile. We would recommend Chamberlain Music / Dominic to anyone, visit the store or have a call with Dominic before you commit to a purchase, as what we did. They also have good informative buying advice on their website, which I also found quite useful in the early search process.

Thank you Dominic for a smooth purchase experience we have had. We all love the piano and it certainly will accompany us for a life time.

Very good upright piano, robust and reliable, and sensitive enough for advanced piano playing. Thank you for a very good service from Chamberlain!

Thank you so much for all of your help with this. Dealing with Chamberlain's is an absolute pleasure. I must also commend John Peel and his team - conscientious in every move they made. It was a real challenge getting my grand out of my cottage but they didn't get in a rush and inch by inch they succeeded. Not the sort of thing we see too often anymore!!

After my eldest boy had passed the first piano exam using an antique Collard&Collard for practice, it was clear the old piano could not support the requirements of Grade 2 and beyond. Having pondered over digital pianos, second hand not-so-old pianos and various new ones, we decided on a new Yamaha U3s. We have now had the piano in the house for a couple of months, and clearly, this is indeed a wonderful instrument! The action is extremely precise, and the sound is crystal clear. Quality throughout! Having such a fine piano invites to playing, and the whole family is now enjoying it. My youngest son just secured a distinction on his first exam, and I would credit a small part of it to having been able to practice daily with a piano with same touch and feel as the piano used at the exam. So now it is just up to the young hopefuls to keep practicing for the next level! I would also mention the excellent service from Chamberlain music, including the nice gentlemen who delivered the piano swiftly and on time, and the piano tuner who came a few weeks after the piano were in place. If anything, I would recommend upgrading the castors. The piano is insanely heavy and comes with some small, basic castors, which makes it hard to move.

Dear Dominic The delivery of the Yamaha U3S upright all went extremely smoothly and I am delighted with my choice of instrument. I look forward to many years of pleasurable playing. Can I take this opportunity of thanking both yourself and Jon Caton for assisting us in the smooth purchase of the Yamaha U3S. From the minute we walked in the door of Chamberlains, I felt we had come to the right place due to the care taken and advice given over choosing a suitable new piano. Chamberlain Music was recommended to us by other professional musician colleagues and we would not hesitate in passing on a similar recommendation. It was a pleasure doing business and I hope we shall be in touch again in the future. Best wishes, Caroline Gough.
