Introducing the Yamaha GB1 baby grand piano c.2005
The Yamaha GB1 is the smallest available grand piano at just 5'0" or 150cm in length, with class leading levels of refinement and a remarkable depth of tone. Its compact dimensions and elegant styling make it an ideal choice for the home or small performance space, while the unmatched responsiveness of a grand piano action means it is also worth considering over a medium to large upright.
The design of the GB1 is based on that of the Conservatory Series, its specification featuring a solid spruce soundboard and sostenuto pedal. While designed and constructed with a careful eye on its price point, and consequently not materially quite as refined as the Japanese-built GC1 or C1X, it still benefits from the inherent quality that Yamaha grand pianos are renowned for.
This example of the GB1 was made in Indonesia in 2005, not long after the model was introduced and having been privately owned is in excellent condition throughout. With a medium bright tone and a quick action this is an excellent value choice of compact grand piano, worth comparing with the new Kawai GL-10.
